Yes, I have a beauty consultant. Don’t you? If not, you need my advisor. Meet Ashlee Payne Jenkins. Just look at this beautiful lady!

We all need a beauty coach. And I’m not talking about the lady who works behind the counter at Walgreens. Not to say she isn’t knowledgeable, but I’m sure she isn’t giving you all the specific info you need.
If you’re anywhere in the age range of 40+ you need to check Ashlee out. She’s my go-to person for all things age-related beauty. Truthfully though, before she launched her trustyle40 pages on Facebook and Instagram, I had no one.
I wasn’t the type to even ask the lady at Walgreens. Seriously, I NEVER used to go to the beauty counters at the mall. Ever. I’ve always been the girl who buys my makeup in the drugstore or grocery store. That’s just me. (I think a lot of that has to do with what you saw your Mom do, and my Mom buys makeup from the drugstore.)
The idea of having a gazillion beauty products is completely foreign to me. Don’t get me wrong. I love makeup and trying to look good, of course. But over the years, the burden of “putting on a face” everyday for work just became a drag – and I completely lost any joy in the process.
I mean, really, it takes knowledge, research and information to find products that work.
Thank God for Ashlee.
She decided to start trustyle40 as a place for women 40+ to discuss makeup, fashion, menopause, skin care, sleep, self care, life, etc. So far she hasn’t fallen short on great ideas and tips. Typically she does a LIVE on Facebook on Tuesdays around 12 EST. And, I’ve definitely gotten a lot out of her tutorials and suggestions.
For example, I’ve had the most difficult time finding a mascara that works for me. When you get older, you tend to have a bit more sag in the upper eyelid and that makes putting on mascara a total drag. I literally went without mascara from about 2012 to 2015. And I know how to curl my lashes and apply mascara, but it still just wasn’t working. I finally found this Maybelline mascara with an applicator that would actually separate the lashes on my eyes and not make everything clump in to one large, unattractive eyelash.
But, I became tired of that formula and Ashlee was showing a video of her make-up routine. She suggested the mascara she uses and I decided to try it out, plus a nice smudge-free eyeliner. Hallelujah! I love them both!
You don’t realize when you’re busy how easy it is to get stuck in a beauty rut. I mean, really, it takes knowledge, research and information to find products that work. I just don’t have the passion or time to dedicate to that. But now I don’t have to sit on the sidelines. I can join a LIVE with Ashlee on Facebook or message her for some info.
At this point in life I’ve totally decided to forgo most of the DIY stuff I used to do. I prefer to turn to experts who have a passion for what they do. It just saves time, money and hassle. I do it in all areas of my life.
I can turn to my Beauty Consultant (Ashlee), my virtual Stylist, or my virtual Fitness Coach (Vicki). It all helps me get through “this thing called life.” In this day and age, there’s no reason to go it alone.
What really inspires me about Ashlee is she’s knowledgeable about makeup, skin care, fashion, etc. And in parallel, she also has deep experience working in fashion and entertainment as a model and actress. However, she’s also very present. She’s aware of what’s happening now.
She’s completely cognizant that she’s no longer twenty, but she also has an amazing zest for life, and is a role model for those of us who may have just considered giving up as we age.
She’s embraced her beauty with an authenticity I admire. One day she may do a smokey eye, and of course she has that great edgy haircut – but she also realizes things change a bit as we get older. She’s very relatable and I love that!
Ashlee and her posts have totally encouraged me to try. Try. Try. Try. That’s huge. Let’s face it…to put on some makeup and try something new…to practice self care or get more sleep, we all need that in our lives right now.
Check her out on her Facebook page trustyle40 or find her on Instagram. What’s even more awesome? You can book a free consultation where she will review your makeup bag and give you suggestions on products to help you achieve your beauty goals!
