I am really looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. I’m sure most people are these days. However, 2020 hasn’t been all that bad. I’ve learned a few things while on my fitness journey.
I now realize fitness is not just about hoping to see the number on the scale go down. It started out that way for me – I would start something, not see immediate changes, then quit for a while. Then I would start over again….
Once I actually stuck with a program more than just a couple of days, I started to see non-scale results within about three to four weeks. It’s these results which now have me coming back for more.
For example, the street I live on is basically a hill. If you walk out of my front door and go left, it’s down hill. If you go right it’s uphill. Of course with my luck my daughter’s best friends live to the right, and so was her school bus stop. So before starting and staying with a fitness program, I despised walking to the right (uphill) to pick up my daughter from the bus or walk her to a friend’s house. Invariably by the second house I was breathing pretty heavily and feeling a burn in my butt and quads. (Sad, I know.) So, I avoided going to the right unless I absolutely had to! Even my dog learned we “go left” on walks!
Since I have completed the MBF (Muscle Burns Fat) three week program I’m able to walk up the hill as if there isn’t an incline at all. I can also lift those diet soda 12 packs without feeling joint pain in my elbow! Now I’m actually lifting with some muscle instead of just using my joint.
Again, it’s sad I let it get that bad, but I’m so happy to see how quickly the body can adjust by adding strength and cardiovascular improvements. The other great thing about working out is I’m sleeping more soundly and have much more energy on the days I work out. Plus, I have very little joint pain or stiffness anymore.
I wish the scale produced results more quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve lost several inches in my chest and waist, but I have a long way to go until I will see a real transformation. However, now that I put in the work and completed a program, I’m better able to control my mind and be more disciplined. When my head says “you don’t need to work out today” I think, “yes, I do.” I need to get stronger, sleep better and have more energy.
It’s not the most exciting revelation I’ve had in 2020, but it’s a plus. I know going in to 2021 I have started to truly form a habit. It’s nice to become more disciplined in an area I’ve been avoiding for so long.
I recently started a FaceBook group for other working women like me. If you’re older, avoiding getting more fit and want to have a private community of women to hold you accountable, let me know. It’s a new group just forming, and we will utilize the Beachbody on demand programs.
The small amount I’ve paid for the program is so awesome compared to the years I’ve thrown away money with gym memberships. One year I had a membership at my gym, one at my workplace gym, and I was also spending ridiculous amounts at a medical weight loss facility. Of course I wasn’t going to the gym at all. I lost weight on the medical weightloss program but gained it all back the second I put a piece of bread in mouth!
It’s going to be a while before I’m back here posting my fitness transformation photos. But, again, I’m really proud I’ve learned how to start and stay on a fitness journey. That’s the hardest part!
